After yesterday's Tea Shoppe card, I figured the next most fitting thing I could show you would be the cakes I made for my husband's granddad's 90th birthday last week. He is a keen bridge player so we decided to take that as our theme for the cakes. We made one rich vanilla sponge (8") and one fruit cake (10") to feed the masses at his birthday party and so he had some cake left over for next week's munchies! He is such a friendly, cheerful and much-loved chap that his party was packed!
Apologies for the unnatural light in the first two: the sponge cake was only finished on Friday evening so it was as fresh as it could be for his party.
The ribbon of the rosettes has playing cards printed on it, and the centres are made with little hearts.
Baker and baked goods, all colour-coordinated of course!
Moving Along With The Times has an 'anything but a card' challenge on this week, so I'm taking them at their word and entering these cakes!
Thanks for visiting today. I'll be back with something paper-based tomorrow!
Wow Victoria these are fabulous - you're a lady with many talents! Don't know how you manage to get the icing so smooth, I only ever make a fruit cake at Christmas and cover it with royal icing - hides a multitude of sins! xx
